The battery plants for the State’s parallel-redundant UPS system were in need of replacement and upgrade. Puckett Engineering provided the design, construction admin, and commissioning. Puckett Engineering’s solutions began with an assessment of the existing layout and configuration of the two existing 675 kW UPS battery plants and the DC power distribution and switchgear. The battery plants had to be replaced with zero downtime to the data center operations. The battery room DC cable distribution included single-conductor cables in a cable tray, including cable short-circuit bracing and cable tray seismic support. A battery monitoring system was incorporated for continuously monitoring each battery jar. Battery plants were fully tested, including functional and capacity testing and thermal imaging.
